June 2015
Joyce Meyer Ministries’ Hand of Hope organization partnered with Reaching A Generation for the first time this summer. They fielded a team of medical and dental providers and volunteers that traveled to Western Zambia to do free medical/dental clinics. Volunteers from around the globe met up and flew many hours to come together to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people in need of love and hope that is only found in Christ.
Five days of clinics in various places around Sioma, Zambia allowed the volunteers to meet people’s medical needs and offer prayer for healing and restoration. The team even loaded all the supplies onto a pontoon boat and floated it across the mighty Zambezi River and carted it on foot through the bush to serve people in a very remote village that is not accessible by roads.
Two volunteers partnered with Breaking Chains International and Restoring Vision to bring in 400+ pairs of reading glasses and sun glasses to give out at the clinics. Many elderly Zambians suffered from cataracts and eye strain due to no shielding from the bright sun. So many people were thankful to have sun glasses and to have readers that allowed them to see clearly for the first time in their lives.
A few of our doctors also were able to minister to a young man and his mother in the local hospital. The young man was in a motor bike accident that January that left him paralyzed from the neck/shoulders down. The level of care he had been receiving in the hospital was minimal, and when the team found him – with his mother at his bedside – his legs were emaciated and he was covered in open sores from not being moved around enough. Our team gave him some pain medication, but he was pretty far past the point of being able to be restored (without a miracle). Our team prayed with him and his mother to give them the opportunity to receive Jesus and they accepted. Praise God we will see them again one day with a restored body!
