New York Dream Center Zambia Mission Trip
June 13-24, 2018
Trip Update from Carrie Nichols, Team Leader
This year’s team – made up of 6 seasoned mission veterans, two real-life American veterans and 4 ‘newbies’ – we arrived in Zambia ready to rock. Our team was made up of ages representing every decade from teens to 80’s, showing that you are NEVER too old or too young to serve others. We had church members and some personal friends of mine from the great state of Texas. I love how the body of Christ can come together from all walks of life, from anywhere on the planet and meet up to form one cohesive unit being the hands and feet of Jesus.
This year’s team worked tirelessly all week, but we encountered set back after set back with the drill rig, eventually delivering us the most devastating blow of not being able to complete one water well during the trip. Imagine, traveling those thousands of miles and hours to reach your destination, only to be disappointed with the results. The team’s energy was defeated, but only in the short term. We knew that God had another plan for us – even if it wasn’t what we planned. We still had the opportunity to play with kids, visit one of the Imagine Hope Centers for young girls and lead a Children’s Church service. The Gospel went forth – just in a different format than we thought.
One team member, Jeff, had a great breakthrough that trip that allowed his hear to be expanded for the hurting and broken. So amazing to see God work in his life and everyone’s life. God will use anyone that just says here I am…
The local drill team would eventually complete the four wells that we could not, so all was not lost. The people of Zambia were still served and got their wells, so there was still many blessings that came from that trip. God does not waste our pain and disappointment, but He uses it for His purposes.
Four more wells built to serve the people of Western Zambia, so we counted that a success!
